Bacca Pearls

Pearls have had quite a history. We begin to see a plethora of natural baroque pearls draping the wealthy royals in the 15th century, when natural pearls arrived via trade in Europe from the Far East. At this time, pearls were worn everywhere - from necklaces, to collars and rings - and for the ultimate show of wealth, pearls were even braided into hair.

By the 17th century, pearls still adorned only the wealthy, but a more subtle use of the gems was more fashionable. We also begin to see more round and oval pearls, used for AMAZING earrings - check these out to the right (not exactly subtle in our book, but we guess in comparison…). Called “Unions d’Excellence,” these earrings have graced the ears of many generations of European royalty.

By the “Gilded Age” (1800 - 1900’s) we see a softer, but equally glamorous look of layering long strands of pearls.  This is our current favorite look - we have been sporting layers of pearls since we began our obsession with pearls 4 years ago. We love that Hollywood is following suit (no, we don’t think we started this fad, but we can dream that our style has such far reaches).
